OK, I am still feeling pretty down today, but I wanted to comment on the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas episode. Let me first say, what I have to say here is my own opinion and I mean not to offend anyone.

(sighs) I like Doctor Who, but for me, the show has been going downhill ever since Matt Smith's debut as the 11th. And the past two Christmas specials have been in the string of disappointments in his tenure. The 2010 one was just an uninspired A Christmas Carol piece and last year's... I won't lie, I was so bored and disengaged by it, I gave up watching it at the first commercial break. Now, in all the time I've watch this show, this is the first time I've ever given up on watching an episode. I still have never seen it in its entirety.

Now I've seen promos for this one. I had hopes, given we'd get the new companion, but the enemy appears to be killer snowmen. I'd much rather prefer Ice Warriors or the Robot Yeti. Still, I will try to catch it and hopefully it won't be a repeat of last year. Here's to it.

You know, I watched the Christmas episode, and I had no problem with it. It was lots of fun, and the last five minutes were something of a payoff for what initially was a pretty "down" theme: a depressed Doctor who parked the Tardis in a park up in a cloud. The last five minutes more than made up for how they got to those last five minutes. I've figured out over the years that when you come to a Doctor Who episode, its helpful to just leave your own prejudices and preconceptions behind, and enjoy. You get more out of the episode, and it makes it easy to escape for an hour or so. Forget who *you* think should show up. Just appreciate who *does* show up, and enjoy the story that is spun out in front of you. That's how it works for me, your mileage may vary... :)
